There has been a revolution of sorts in the design of infant car seats in the last three decades. When I was a baby my mother would hold me in her arms when the family went for a drive. Do that now and your not only likely to get a ticket. Infant car seat manufacturers have been able to design car seats for infants with greater features both for comfort and safety, and are able to offer them to the market at extremely affordable prices.

Infant car seats are now specifically designed for infants. Go to a store and you will be overwhelmed by the plethora of designs and choices that are afforded to parents. There are dozens of baby car seat manufacturers and all are designed and tested with an eye toward providing the safest possible protection for your infant. Infant car seats in general are rear-facing. This means that when the car seat is installed in the car, the infant will face the rear of the car. All safety car seats come with multiple harness attachment points. Many of them can be either hooked directly into the attachment points under the seat of the vehicle or can be used with adult seatbelt straps.

Besides multiple modes of attachment, modern infant car seats are designed for increase portability and convenience for the parent. Many infant car seats consist of a bassinet that can be detached from a base that is secured in the vehicle. This arrangement allows parents the ability to quickly and effortlessly install and remove the infant from the car without unbuckling or re-buckling the infant’s safety straps. Many of these bassinets can then be used with stroller attachments. Waking a sleeping infant makes for a more stressful trip to and from the store. Imagine how easy that same trip becomes with a detachable bassinet that allows you to secure sleeping baby into the vehicle base and drive to the store without waking the baby.

Finally, the greater number of infant car seat manufacturers means a greater cost savings for you as a parent. All of that market competition ensures that car seats are priced to be competitive. This means that you will be able to find a car seat that is in your price range. Whether you want to spend more for the extra features and convenience, or just purchase a base model, an infant car seat can be yours for as little as fifty dollars or as much as three hundred.
